FIBROMA

ORAL FIBROMA

This is one of the most common tumours in the oral cavity.

It's a benign tumour.

The main cause is chronic trauma, usually a bite.

How is it manifest?

Exophytic lesion on the oral mucosa, especially: tongue, cheeks and behind the labial commissures. If the trauma is recent, there may be an ulceration (thrush) in the bitten region.

Is it indicated to be removed?

Yes

What is the most suitable treatment?

At Instituto Português da Face, we remove fibroids using a LASER.

The LASER enables a faster treatment, with less bleeding, a postoperative period with less oedema (swelling) and less pain for the patient, who does not need stitches (sutures).

We always send the fibroma for analysis so that no relevant information is lost.
