With over 11 years of clinical experience, his medical career had been directed towards specialization in the area of orofacial pain and temporomandibular joint dysfunction.
A pivotal event in his career as a doctor occurred with the defence of his doctoral thesis in Maxillofacial Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon in 2018, which coincided with his entry into the European Society of Temporomandibular Joint Surgeons, becoming the first Portuguese doctor to join this prestigious society. He is currently an Invited Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon.
He has contributed to the development of minimally invasive techniques for the treatment of temporomandibular joint dysfunction. In the scientific area, he has been distinguished with various research awards and participates in international conferences enabling a vision of progress and development in the area of regenerative medicine and intelligent biomaterials.
With 16 years of clinical experience, his medical career has progressively specialized inorthognathic surgery, temporomandibular joint dysfunction and obstructive sleep apnoea. He founded the Portuguese society of TMJ dysfunction and orofacial pain, which he is honoured to preside over.
Following 8 years of work in leading health organizations in Portugal, in 2016 he decided to found, in partnership with his colleague David Ângelo, a solid project in the area of Facial Surgery aimed at offering a series of innovative services in his area of specialization.
Training is a key area of interest, where he has organized and produced numerous courses in Portugal. His curriculum includes participation in many national and international conferences on different topics that have distinguished scientific work in Portugal.
Graduated from one of the best Medical Schools in Brazil, the prestigious University of São Paulo (USP), he specialized in Head and Neck Surgery at Hospital das Clínicas in São Paulo. He moved to Portugal in 2007 where he became a specialist in Otorhinolaryngology and Cervicofacial Surgery. By combining the Otorhinolaryngology and Cervicofacial Surgery skills learnt in Portugal with his experience in Head and Neck Surgery acquired in Brazil, he took his surgical knowledge and expertise to a much higher level, enabling a more complete approach to the patient. In Head and Neck Surgery, surgical experience and the patient-doctor relationship is extremely important, as this region of the body not only incorporates vital organs but also essential structures for quality of life: taste, movement of the face, smile, voice, breathing. For this reason, a humane and realistic approach to these patients and their families is a major pillar of this work.
Graduated from a national reference institution in the specialty, she directed her training towards Oral Medicine, a field dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of different pathologies of the mouth and lips.
She has 8 years of clinical experience in this highly evolving area in recent years in Portugal, currently working on two related innovative aspects:
1 – She is a member of the first clinical research team in Portugal to study the use of contact endoscopy techniques in the diagnosis and monitoring of different mouth and lip lesions, an original project worldwide. The Instituto Português da Face is the first private centre to have this advanced technology for accurate diagnosis of different lesions of the oral and labial mucosa.
2 - Use of different types of laser in the treatment of various lesions in the area of Oral Medicine and in the treatment of snoring.
Specialized in Otorhinolaryngology, his training early focused on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the nose and sinuses, a subspecialty of Otorhinolaryngology called Rhinology. This was followed by an internship at the Academisch Medisch Centrum (Amsterdam, Netherlands), a European reference centre in the field of Rhinology, and several international courses in this area. He primarily focuses on medical and surgical treatment of diseases of the nose, sinuses and neighbouring organs (eustachian tube, lacrimal pathway). His aesthetic and functional nasal surgery (rhinoplasty, septoplasty), using the latest endoscopic surgery techniques for the treatment of rhinitis, chronic rhinosinusitis, nasal tumours, eustachian tube dysfunction and tear pathology, are emblematic of his differentiation in this field.
Graduated in Medicine at one of the oldest and most prestigious Universities in Spain, the University of Santiago de Compostela, she subsequently completed a Master's Degree in Aesthetic Medicine and another in Trichology and Hair Transplantation at the University of Alcalá in Madrid. Her career progressed in the finest specialized clinics in Spain and now in Portugal, where she develops and perfects the most efficient methods and techniques in the treatment of her patients. She regularly participates in congresses, conferences, seminars, practical courses and workshops held in Portugal and abroad. She is a member of the Portuguese Society of Aesthetic Medicine and Anti-Aging and of the World FUE Institute. She is currently responsible for the Department of Aesthetic Medicine and Hair Transplantation at the Portuguese Face Institute.
Specialized in Neurology, having completed training in the area of neuroimmunology at international reference centres, namely at Cemcat (Center d'Esclerosi Mútiple de Catalunya) at Vall d'Hebron Hospital in Barcelona and at the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences, of the University of Oxford. She also complemented her expertise in translational and clinical research with the Portugal Clinical Scholars Research Training, given by Harvard Medical School, in partnership with the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology. Her curriculum includes the publication of various scientific articles and has numerous works in poster format and oral communication delivered at national and international congresses. Currently, she is responsible for the Neurology Department of the Portuguese Face Institute, with special focus on the approach and treatment of headaches and craniofacial pain.
He completed his training in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery at the most traditional Plastic Surgery Service in the country. From an early age, he deepened his knowledge in the field of aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery, medicine and aesthetic surgery of the face and in body contouring surgery. Concerning breast surgery, he has 4 years of experience as a member of the breast reconstruction team in one of the largest hospitals in the country. He is regularly invited as a trainer for undergraduate to postgraduate courses, often collaborating in the training of new doctors at the University of Medicine of Lisbon.
He started his career in clinical practice in oral hygiene in 1991, after completing his bachelor's degree at the School of Dental Medicine of the University of Lisbon (FMDUL), having furthered his training in the same area years later at the Higher Institute of Health (ISAVE). Years later, he contracted an autoimmune disease, vitiligo. After consulting and being treated unsuccessfully by dermatologists, he decided to try Chinese medicine. Here, he obtained surprising results in 6 months, with the vitiligo having vanished up to date. Thus inspired, he began to study traditional Chinese medicine, continuing over 5 years.
He completed the acupuncture course, focused mainly on osteoarticular pathologies and weight loss, specializing particularly in the treatment of pain using distal acupuncture and introducing acupuncture in the clinical practice of dental medicine, mainly in bruxism, trismus problems, limitation of mouth opening, TMJ dysfunction, paraesthesia, facial paralysis and orofacial pain.
He began his academic training in health technologies in the area of radiology, graduating in Speech Therapy from the Catholic University of Pernambuco (recognition of academic degree from the University of Algarve, Portugal). Now, with over two decades of experience in clinical and hospital practice, his clinical intervention focuses on the therapeutic rehabilitation of stomatognathic system dysfunctions secondary to orthognathic surgery, facial trauma, temporomandibular disorders and oropharyngeal dysphagia. Among his many specialties accumulated throughout his professional career, he is an outstanding Specialist in Orofacial Motricity and a Specialist in Oropharyngeal Dysphagia, with swallowing assessment through the Swallowing Video Fluoroscopy exam, using his skills in various hospitals as a consultant and trainer. As care for the elderly is an area of special interest, he has a specialization in Geriatrics and Gerontology from the University of Aveiro and a postgraduate degree in Gerontology from the Catholic University of Portugal.
Brazilian Health Technician graduated 10 years ago at Unip - Universidade Paulista, Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil. She has worked as a Health Technician in Audit, Nursing, Emergency and Urgency. Over the last 5 years, she has worked as a Health Care and Management Technician in an Ophthalmology Emergency Department, having decided to move to Europe to expand her knowledge, show her work and enhance her curriculum. At the moment, she works at the Portuguese Face Institute, striving to welcome the user in a holistic and humanized way.
Kelly Santos is from Curitiba (Brazil), having graduated in Physiotherapy at the Tuiuti University of Paraná (Brazil) in 2005. Along her career, she specialized in Orthopaedic, Traumatological and Sports Physiotherapy at the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná in 2008. Since then, she worked exclusively in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders, including temporomandibular joint dysfunction. In 2014, she received degree equivalence in Portugal from the School of Health Technologies of Lisbon (ESTESL). Currently, her continuous training has covered TMJ rehabilitation and Orthognathic Surgery, and postgraduation in cervical-cranio-mandibular pathophysiology, taught by Dr Mariano Rocabado of the Andrés Bello University in Santiago (Chile).
He has a degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Aveiro and is taking a master's in Health Management at Universidade Nova de Lisboa. His professional career has always been related to the health area, at a first stage in pharmacy management and consultancy and, later within the pharmaceutical industry working with a Portuguese multinational. Health is what drives him, but management is what satisfies him, and at IPFace he has the best of both worlds.
Graduated in public relations and advertising, she focused her training and over 17 years of experience on the health area. Dealing with people has been more than an area of interest, but a profession. This guided her action in various companies in general medicine and various specialties, where she has performed administrative, organizational and human resources duties. In addition to her extensive experience, she has a referral network at different levels of medical contexts and multidisciplinary approaches. With her focus on patient communication, rigour in procedures and professional ethics, she is a valuable asset in the Portuguese Face Institute’s team.
Eliana began her professional career at the age of 23 in the customer service area, where she continues to this day. She has always nurtured her natural flair for human relations, where her empathy in dealing with the public has always been outstanding in the different jobs which have enriched her career. Currently playing in the health field for the first time, she aspires to further improve her public service skills.
Having started her career at the age of 18, Inês has experience in serving the public in a welcoming and warm manner. She joined the IPFace in February 2020, and wants to grow with the team and our patients while improving her knowledge in the area of health and excellent care.
