He began his academic training in health technologies in the area of radiology, graduating in Speech Therapy from the Catholic University of Pernambuco (recognition of academic degree from the University of Algarve, Portugal). Now, with over two decades of experience in clinical and hospital practice, his clinical intervention focuses on the therapeutic rehabilitation of stomatognathic system dysfunctions secondary to orthognathic surgery, facial trauma, temporomandibular disorders and oropharyngeal dysphagia.

Among his many specialties accumulated throughout his professional career, he is an outstanding Specialist in Orofacial Motricity and a Specialist in Oropharyngeal Dysphagia, with swallowing assessment through the Swallowing Video Fluoroscopy exam, using his skills in various hospitals as a consultant and trainer. As care for the elderly is an area of special interest, he has a specialization in Geriatrics and Gerontology from the University of Aveiro and a postgraduate degree in Gerontology from Universidade Católica of Portugal.

e combines other positions with his clinical activity, being Director of the Vocational Training Center certified by the General-Directorate for Employment and Labour Relations (DGERT) for the health areas, Instituto EPAP, Lda. This is a pioneer training company with 10 years of experience in the opening of various specializations and training in the Orofacial Motricity, Oropharyngeal Dysphagia, Electrophysiology, and Clinical and Professional Voice areas.

He is the coordinator and professor of the specializations offered by Instituto EPAP, Lda in Lisbon, Porto and Spain; coordinator and professor of Speech Therapy in Dysphagia at the Colegio Oficial de Logopedas de Andalucía (Spain). Co-coordinator and professor (specialty area coordinator) of the Master's Degree in Speech Therapy: Orofacial Motricity and Swallowing at Santa Casa da Misericórdia Alcoitão Health School. Co-coordinator and professor of the Master’s in Orofacial Motricity, at FUB - Fundació Universitària del Bages (Spain) and at Instituto EPAP (Portugal). Accreditation by UVic - Universitat de la Catalunya Central (Spain). Professor of the Master’s in Orofacial Motricity at Unversidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain).

Main areas of interest: Rehabilitation of Temporomandibular Disorders, Orthognathic Surgery and Facial Trauma. Functional Assessment of Deglutition by Radiodiagnosis (Videofluoroscopy of Swallowing). Electrophysiological Techniques applied to the Stomatognathic System: Thermographic Evaluation, Therapeutic Ultrasound (UST), Electrostimulation and Photobiomodulation (laser therapy).

For several years he coordinated the degree in Speech Therapy at the Alto Ave Higher Health Institute and collaborates as a guest in several degree programs. In the context of higher education, he is also an Educational Designer for undergraduate courses, master’s, postgraduate and specialization courses. He is the author and co-author of scientific articles and book chapters in his areas of interest.

He is an associate member of the Portuguese Society for Temporomandibular Disorders and Orofacial Pain (SPDOF). Member of ALTEC - Association of Laser Therapy and Related Technologies of Portugal. Member of the European Association of Thermology.
