Dr. FRANCESCO MAFFIA
DOC
Graduated in Medicine from the Università di Roma "La Sapienza" with a classification of 110 cum Laude, he continued his specialized training in Maxillofacial Surgery at the Università degli Studi di Napoli "Federico II". He is currently a Maxillofacial Surgeon at the Portuguese Institute of the Face in Lisbon and is pursuing a PhD at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon.
His clinical background has been solidified through training and work periods in international reference centers such as the Medizinische Universität Wien (Austria), the Pyramide am See clinic (Switzerland), and the General Hospital Sint-Jan in Bruges (Belgium).
In his daily practice, he focuses his career on the orofacial area and aesthetic-focused surgery. He particularly dedicates himself to orthognathic surgery for the correction of dentoskeletal malformations and the diagnosis and treatment of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders. This solid surgical foundation also encompasses other areas, including rhinoplasty interventions and advanced techniques for aesthetic-functional facial surgery.
His intense clinical activity has always been accompanied by a profound commitment to training and scientific research. He is the author of numerous publications and holds the position of Assistant Editor at the European Journal of Stomatology, Oral, and Facial Surgery.
As a testament to the high scientific rigor of his work, he has been awarded prestigious international prizes, including the Stryker Leibinger Prize (2022) awarded by the European Association for Cranio Maxillo Facial Surgery (EACMF) and the “Maxime Champy” Research Grant sponsored by SORG (2024).
